Coaching

Monaghan Koryu Uchinadi, Coaching & training.
Any coaches within our club must have completed recognised courses including

1. Child protection.
2. First Aid course.

We aim to develop develop and progress our members properly within the set out stages of advancement from beginner to experienced both in competitive sport Karate and non- competitive self-defence traditional karate. These stages are the researched criteria to which most good development programs are built around throughout the world.
They are,

1. Fundamental Phase.
2. Learning to train phase.
3. Training to train phase.
4. For competative based practices-Training to compete Phase.
5. Training to win Phase.

We believe that Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo Jutsu fulfills the stages of proper development for training within Traditional Karate. Hanshi Patrick Mc Carthy, founder of KU was at the fore front of setting up the first recognised Martial arts development program in the world. His KU system is built around years of research and study in body development, body structure, aerobic & anaerobic training, conditioning, motor/skill development and mental understanding to name but a few.

Koryu-Uchinadi; Structured for development. How? Why?
Having spent a life time in the martial arts Patrick Mc Carthy has developed Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo Jutsu in a structured way to aid in the holistic functions of participants within its system.
These processes include,

1. Body conditioning through two person drills,
2. Improving Cardio Vascular fitness through the aerobic & anaerobic workouts of
    training.
3. Improving motor function e.g Turning, reacting, movement through two person  interaction. This is paticulary good for juniors to develop through the stages of child-teenage-adult.

Lets not forget that the one underlying principle of traditional Karate/Martial Arts no matter what style in modern age is Self-Defence. Through his historical studies in China and Okinawa Patrick Mc Carthy discovered what the original practices were like before the age of styles & sport orientated karate were developed. Through diligent years of work and effort he has put his findings into a unique system to deliver the correct format for development of beginner/experienced in Self-Defence & traditional karate practices.

These include,
1. Gyaku Waza, Escape and counters from hapitual acts of physical violence
e.g being grabed, choked, punched, kicked etc. from front/back in standup or
    from the ground.
2. Uke Waza, perrcusive impact, giving and receiving.
3. Kansetsu Waza, joint minipulation, cavity seizing & limb entanglements.
4. Shime Waza, chokes/strangles-air/blood depravition.
5. Nege Waza, balance displacment.
6. Ne waza, ground fighting & submissions.

Having had his work recognised throughout the world Patrick was invited by the Australian Karate Association in 1993 to Oz to lecture on the value of safety & first aid, risk assessment, pedagogical principles, lesson planning, history, philosophy and holistic insights and [kata] application practices. On his 2nd visit in 1994 he was offered the task of writing the country's first government recognized Diploma of MA's instruction. Having accepted the offer he migrated there in 1995, and to the best of our knowledge, was the only person ever granted permanent residency [and ultimately full citizenship] based upon the martial arts.

Using the NCAS Level's 1-4, as a fundamental infrastructure, he wrote a 22-subject academic curriculum delivered in four semesters over a full-time two year study. Introduced in 1997, as an under-graduate program [hosted by Australia's College of Natural Medicine] it set international precedence as the first course of its kind anywhere in the world. Many countries are now recognising the benefits of his work for setting up a martial arts program and integrating its structure into their own coaching programs.
